Lampas. A form of tribute to the pomp of the eighteenth century, the actual name of this rich lampas brings to mind the palace of Versailles. The pattern taken from the frontispiece of the gilded leather binding of a book from the early eighteenth century, housed in the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, is created from the play on the different sheens of the weave materials. On the rich silk satin ground, the metallic weaves trace rocailles elements and form rectangular frames for oval mirroring. A courtly eighteenth-century style is a feature of this luxury lampas, made up of broken surfaces, which can be traced to dots rather than fully defined solid shapes.
